FAQs:

Bees are scary, do I have to get close to the bees?

Often people are surprised at how relaxing it can be to stand beside a calm hive of honey bees but it’s completely understandable to be a little nervous.  When we visit the hive you are equipped with a protective beekeeping suit and will be with a professional beekeeper who’s job it is to understand the bees and ensure they’re safe to be around.  When we visit the hive you can get up close or stand further away; wherever you feel most comfortable.

Is this the same as a “bee experience”?

These events are quite different from the usual bee experiences hosted by Sunnyfields which are more about spending prolonged time with the bees and hives, the visit to the hives for this event will be brief to give you some insight into a colony but won’t be as long or detailed as during a bee experience.

Where is the event taking place?

The events will be taking place in the training apiary at Sunnyfields HQ which is in the beautiful Waveney Valley on the Suffolk/Norfolk border. The apiary is located next to a 99 acre ancient woodland where buzzards, red kites, deer, foxes and other wildlife can be found in abundance, the location is surrounded by fields (and the nearest neighbour is ½ a mile away!). The postcode is NR35 2DQ – half an hour from Norwich, an hour from Ipswich and just over an hour from Colchester.

Who is Katie?

Katie is the Creative tutor at Wild Oak Workshops. She has created immersive, seasonal experiences to connect you to Nature. Her love of creativity stems for her career in Interior Design, always being drawn to the natural dye colours, botanical prints, tactile fabrics such as wools, cottons and linens. As ‘Chief Nester’ she also dressed the homes with flowers, and this is where her love of all things floral and wild foliage was ignited. Having moved to Norfolk Katie has been inspired by the abundance of each season and now incorporates as many wild accents as possible into her bouquets.

Her Wild Floristry workshops are relaxing, absorbing experiences where you learn so much about the language of flowers, how they talk to the bees and buzzing insects and create beautiful posies all inspired by Nature and the Seasons.
